Division Marine

Over twenty years on cargo vessels, ferries, tugs, fishing vessels and barges. From early design through to maintenance, wherever and whenever it is needed.

Here the classification society has the last word

  • Regulation

Nothing is installed because it works: it is installed because it has been approved. Every change goes through drawing review and an on-board survey by the classification society, and the paperwork weighs as much as the installation. We plan that process inside the schedule rather than bolting it on at the end.

  • What it demands

Two very different calendars. In new build the yard sets the milestones, and the electrical installation follows the structure and the machinery. In a yard period the window is fixed in advance, and every day of delay is lost freight.

  • Who we deal with

There are usually two parties: the owner or operator decides and the yard builds. Both talk in technical terms and both ask for traceability of what was done.

Vessel types

More than seven hundred vessels, in new build and in repair.

  • Cargo vessels

Bulk carriers, container ships and multipurpose

  • Ferries and ro-ro

Passenger and rolling cargo, with evacuation requirements

  • Tugs

Harbour and salvage, compact plant at high power

  • Fishing vessels

    Refrigeration, deck machinery and endurance

  • Barges and pontoons

    Self-propelled and bunkering

  • Support vessels

PSV and offshore, with plant redundancy

What we do on a vessel

Each group links to the service page, where the full scope is set out. What follows is what that service means on board a vessel.

  • Engineering projects

    • Complete marine electrical engineering design
    • Feasibility studies for hybrid solutions
    • AC and DC systems
    • Build strategy and planning with the yard
  • Site management

    • Drawing approval with the classification society
    • Independent survey
    • Coordination with the yard trades
  • Electrical equipment manufacturing

    • Main, emergency and distribution switchboards
    • Navigation light panels
    • Motor transformers and starters
    • Batteries, chargers and generators
  • Automation, control and monitoring

    • Integrated alarm, control and monitoring systems (IACMS)
    • Power management systems (PMS)
    • Integrated bridge solutions
    • Fire and gas detection

    • Connection of main and auxiliary machinery
  • Maintenance and testing

    • Complete vessel electrical survey
    • Support on generators and engines
    • Battery and circuit breaker testing
  • Refit and repairs

    • System extensions and conversions
    • Survey and repair after a casualty, with the vessel out of service
